In the 17th and 18th centuries the plague doctors invented masks to protect themselves from their patients. These infamous masks had glass openings in the eyes and a curved beak shaped like that of a bird with straps that held the beak in front of the doctor’s nose. The cavity of the beak was filled with dried flowers, herbs, spices, camphor, or a vinegar sponge. The purpose of the mask was to keep away the poisonous miasma of the plague.
Techno Silver’s brass bead features a stunningly detailed depiction of such a mask with a tricorn hat. The 6 millimeter hole easily fits two strands of 550 paracord.
