Cash Manufacturing – Tinder Box

Prior to the invention of the friction match in 1826, tinder boxes were used by trappers, traders, soldiers and frontiersmen to store fire starting supplies such as flint, steel and dried tinder.

The octagonal brass tinder box made by the American company Cash Manufacturing can be used for the same purpose, but can hold other small items as well. The domed lid and the box are connected by a piano hinge and shut tightly due to the riveted steel tongue and the respective creasing in the lid.
