There’s a huge variety of mechanical pencils available, but rarely you will find one that is as elegantly designed as Ystudio’s high quality writing instrument. The barrel is made from solid brass and has some serious heft to it. The copper cap adds a subtle touch of refinement.
The pencil takes 0.7 mm leads. To refill the lead, just remove the cap to drop the lead into the tube. Pressing the cap down advances the lead. The 0.7 mm delivers a medium line which is a good middle ground for both writing and drawing. To keep a consistent line thickness, you typically need to rotate the mechanical pencil in your hand from time to time to get to a different angle on the tip.
There’s no eraser under the top cap. I’m not a big fan of integrated erasers anyway because I don’t like the hassle of uncapping and capping the pencil to access the on-board eraser. Instead, I always keep an eraser near by.
Ystudio’s mechanical pencil lacks advanced features like a retractable tip but is a solid all-around writing tool.

I’ve followed your videos for a while. Great idea, your new blog, but now I am curious: do you like stationery in general or only if it’s made from brass?
Hi Matthias! I like elegant stationery in general. However, staying true to the theme of this blog, I will only feature brass-made stationery.
Well, this pencil is certainly elegant!
