American writer Truman Capote, author of In Cold Blood and Breakfast At Tiffany’s, once famously remarked in an interview: “I’m one of the world’s greatest pencil sharpeners.” It’s not known if Capote ever used Dux’s classic adjustable pencil sharpener which was developed in Germany in the early 1950s. Precision-made from solid brass, the sharpener allows for adjusting the sharpness of the pencil point for different applications.
A knurled dial attached to the end of the sharpener can be set to three sharpening settings. The dial can be felt clicking into place when it’s turned. Depending on the setting, the pencil is allowed to enter more or less deeply into the interior of the sharpener. The sharpening results vary between an acute and a rather blunt point. The difference between each point is more subtle than obvious but enough to notice when writing or drawing. This shiny little pencil sharpener comes with a neat leather pouch for storage.

It’s a shame that brass stationery is seemingly becoming less common after new rules came into effect in a few markets a several years ago (regarding lead content), which resulted in some manufacturers who don’t even use lead in their brass products to stop these products because – dealing with all the paperwork involved is not worth it.. 8^(
