Lumintop – IYP365 Brass

The Lumintop IYP365 is a pen-sized flashlight that runs off two AAA batteries and has three brightness levels. You can choose between a Nichia 219CT and a Cree XP-G3 (R5) LED. I went for the latter one because of the higher maximum output of 200 lumens. The advantage of the Nichia LED is the high color rendering index.

As the name suggests, this flashlight is made to be carried in your pocket every day: “IYP” stands for “In Your Pocket”, and the number 365 indicates the number of days in a year. The light features a push button tail switch. Fully press the button to turn the light on or off. The IYP365 always comes on in medium since there is no memory. When the light is on, press the switch halfway to cycle through the modes low (3 lumens), medium (40 lumens) and high (200 lumens). Alternatively, you can access the different output modes by repeatedly twisting the head of the light.

The pen-like design of the light and the stainless steel clip make it easy to carry in a shirt or pants pocket. Another thoughtful detail is the fluorescent ring around the reflector, which helps finding the flashlight in the dark.

The Lumintop IYP365 comes in a hard cardboard box. Please note that the batteries are not included. The only accessories are two spare o-rings and a user manual. However, if you are like me, you probably already own a bunch of rechargeable Eneloop batteries.
