A retractable tape measure is a rather unusual EDC item. Nonetheless, this tool might come in handy when buying new furniture or planning the layout of a room. It can also help you visualize the dimensions of an object. But even if you do not carry a tape measure, it is worth having one in your desk drawer.

Founded in 1895, the German company Hoechstmass looks back on a long and successful history. Today, they are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of flexible and high-quality tape measures. Designed with a brass case, the Hoechstmass pocket tape is both durable and appealing. The patented stop/go rewind mechanism works reliably. Simply push the retract button and the tape zips back in.

The inelastic polyfibre tape is 150 centimeters long. While the version sold by the German retailer Manufactum only features centimeter and millimeter units, the custom-made version for the American company Best Made comes with both metric and imperial graduations.

After a few days of use, the brass case has begun to develop an attractive patina.
